Friends, it seems the one and only Aaron Norris has struck artistic gold once again with his latest creation - and this time he's really raised the bar. As you may recall, last year Norris made waves on the amateur golf art scene when he crafted an impeccable portrait of Tiger Woods entirely out of golf tees. 25,000 tiny tees! It was a work of dedication, obsession, and precision.

But it seems Norris wasn't content to rest on his tee-rific laurels. No, for his newest Tiger tribute the man has gone all in, crafting an enormous  4’ x 8’ canvas portrait of Tiger Woods entirely from wood blocks. That's right, 30,000 individual slivers of oak, maple, walnut, elm and hackberry were lovingly cut and placed by hand to recreate the intense gaze and iconic silhouette of the greatest to ever grip it.

Per Norris' Instagram, this magnum opus took a staggering two months and FIVE DAYS to complete. When asked how much liquid inspiration was required for such a Herculean task, our artist played it coy but intimated the number was substantial.

“lots.”

All I can say is I hope someone was mixing in some electrolyte-filled sports drinks to keep the creativity flowing!

Early feedback on the piece has been overwhelmingly positive. The hyper-detailed shadows and nuanced expressions Norris achieved solely through the mediums of various chunky blocks of wood have left viewers in awe of his focus, patience and raw talent. Some have even dared to suggest it may be the Sistine Chapel of golf art! High praise indeed.

Previously, Norris painted many oil paintings of Woods, including two sets in the Major Masters at Augusta National in Georgia, including the former world number one waiting to play the 12th hole and the moment when he set the -13 winning mark for the 2019 tournament. That result marked Woods' 15th cup win in the quartet of majors including Masters (five times), PGA Championship (4 times), US Open (3 times) and The Open (3 times).

In addition to Woods' portrait, artist Norris also painted portraits of many famous people or world sports monuments such as Arnold Palmer (golf), Muhammad Ali (boxing), Stephen Curry (basketball), Derek Jeter (baseball), Lionel Messi (football), etc.

In his introduction, Norris said he specialized in oil paintings, focusing on landscape themes in the first half of his career. However, in recent years, Norris has tended to portrait sports figures, mainly in the position of legends or the most influential in the world. Norris' entire body of work is currently listed for $100.

Wherever it ends up, one thing is for sure - this latest masterwork has raised the bar yet again for amateur golf art. You keep shining that light, Aaron Norris! This Golfaq writer can't wait to see what you create next. Stay tuned!
