Rocket Mortgage Classic 2024 Field Taking Shape with Top Players Committing to Detroit

The field for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic, which will be held June 25-30 at the Detroit Golf Club, is beginning to take shape with 156 players now committed to play. According to a report on the PGA Tour website, several of the top 50 players in the world will be teeing it up in Detroit as the tournament looks to attract another strong lineup.

Leading the commitments so far are 10 players ranked in the top 50 globally, including Cameron Young who sits at a career-high #23. Young is fresh off a record-tying round of 59 at the Travelers Championship last month. Also committed are Tom Kim, Chris Kirk, and defending champion Rickie Fowler. All of these players will be among the favorites to win as the tournament aims to continue growing its stature on the PGA Tour schedule.

In addition to the top-ranked talent, other past Rocket Mortgage Classic winners returning are Cam Davis from 2021 and Nate Lashley, a wire-to-wire victor in 2019 in just his second PGA Tour start. The backing of previously successful players bodes well for the event.

Major championship pedigree will also be on display at Detroit Golf Club. Confirmed players with victories include Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Francesco Molinari, Webb Simpson, Jimmy Walker, and 2019 U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland.

Two upcoming young stars will also receive sponsor's exemptions for the tournament - 15-year old Miles Russell will make his pro debut, while 2023 U.S. Amateur runner-up Neal Shipley just recently turned professional.

With over a week remaining until the commitment deadline, a few additional spots remain up for grabs through Monday's qualifiers. But the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic is shaping up as one of the strongest fields in the event's history, with many of golf's biggest names planning to tee it up in Detroit this summer.

What are the key highlights from previous Rocket Mortgage Classic tournaments

The Rocket Mortgage Classic keeps delivering exciting finishes! Last year it came down to Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa and Chez Reavie in a playoff. Fowler pulled it out after shooting a final round 68 to tie the tournament record at 26-under.

In 2021, Cam Davis stole the show. He birdied the final hole to force overtime against Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann. Davis finally won it on the fifth playoff hole with a clutch par.

The inaugural 2019 edition was wild too. Nate Lashley, who barely made the cut, just wouldn't go away. He led the entire tournament at 25-under to set the record.

And how about that 15-year old James Piot getting a sponsor's exemption in 2019? Kid's got serious talent.

It's only been a few years but this tournament in Detroit continues to deliver can't-miss drama and breakthrough wins. With fields featuring the game's best, it's becoming a must-watch summer event. You never know when another potential star is going to emerge on that course!
