A routine morning round of golf turned chaotic last weekend at Riverway Golf Club in Burnaby, BC after a heated altercation broke out between two groups of golfers and escalated into an all-out brawl.

Witnesses say the incident began when one group hit into the group ahead multiple times on the course, angering the other players. Tempers flared and a shouting match ensued. Before long, fists were thrown and bodies went to the ground as nearly a dozen golfers started fighting each other in the middle of the fairway.

It was absolute mayhem. These guys were going at it - punching, kicking, pulling hair. It was unbelievable to see out on a golf course.

As the brawl intensified, one man apparently tried to end the fight with a flying kick to the head of an opponent lying on the ground. However, the would-be kick landed poorly and the attacker ended up flat on his back taking punches.

“F–king stop!” - Nearby golfers immediately called paramedics and Burnaby Police responded along with paramedics. Fortunately, despite the violent nature of the fight, no serious injuries were reported and no one required hospitalization.

Police are now investigating and say charges may be pending against those involved. For their part, Riverway Golf Club has warned other members this kind of unruly and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated on the course.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder that frustration and tempers can boil over anywhere, even in a peaceful game like golf. Players and officials alike hope a blatant display of violence like this remains an isolated incident at Riverway and courses everywhere.
