Royal Troon - We all know Tiger Woods is no stranger to pain on the course these days. But did a British Open commentator really have to call out his possible "painkiller intake" so loudly?
Yours truly was scrolling through the usual memes and hot takes on Twitter when something caught my eye - everyone was collectively cringing over a comment made about Tiger during Thursday's broadcast. As the legend strode up the fairway, the assigned commentator casually suggested "you've got to think that there's a lot of painkillers being taken to cope with the pain."
🎙️Featured groups announcers on Tiger Woods: “You look at the eyes, you gotta think there’s a lot of painkillers being taken.”

Thoughts on this?

Now I'm no expert, but even I know you don't just blurt something like that out to millions of viewers! The analyst is probably still cursing himself as I type. Within minutes, the golf world exploded with reactions like "An absolute crazy thing to say on air” and “Very, very weird thing to say.” You get the point - it was NOT a great look.
An absolute crazy thing to say on air.

I'm not a big fan of Tiger, but even if it's true, there are just things that need not be said

So we’re just accusing Tiger Woods of popping a bunch of pain killers based on ‘the look in his eyes’ nowadays?💀 pic.twitter.com/8A2ezzv9UE

For his part, Woods was paired with Americans Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay for the first two rounds at Royal Troon, battled on through four over to make the cut. But there's no doubt the injury torture chamber that is his body was tested out there in the brutal Troon winds.
Only time will tell if Woods has another miracle round in him this weekend. In the meantime, perhaps commentators everywhere can learn a lesson about overly blunt hot takes from this debacle! The Legend is warrior enough without having his pain broadcast to the entire globe. Ouch indeed.
Stay tuned to Golfaq.com for more lighthearted coverage of the British Open - and hopefully less cringe-worthy commentary blunders! Let me know if you spot any other spicy Twitter reactions I should write about. Until then, later skaters!
