Tyrrell Hatton Reflects on 'Good but Frustrating' Debut LIV Golf Season

Tyrrell Hatton reflected on a season of promise but ultimately disappointment as his Legion XIII team finished fourth in the LIV Golf Team Championship finale.

The former PGA Tour star told Golfaq.com it had been an "unusual yet eye-opening" campaign reflecting on his move to the Saudi-backed series in February. But he felt they underperformed in their last event of 2024.

Legion XIII reached the final day at Club at Centurion within striking distance of the title. However, losing captain Jon Rahm to illness proved decisive as they fell five shots shy of champions Ripper GC after a collective six-under effort.

"We always had belief in ourselves as a team," said Hatton. "Reaching the final day was a positive. But to end up fourth with that score was bitterly disappointing, especially losing Jon."

It capped a season of promising team results for Legion, including four earlier crown. But the Englishman admitted individual milestones, such as his LIV Nashville triumph, provided the brightest moments.

While Legion XIII won four team crowns and Hatton triumphed individually at Nashville, the Englishman said not finishing stronger in Dallas was frustrating.

"Yeah, it was nice to win again as an individual," Hatton said. "I think it would have been a nice way to finish the year doing better this week, but it's been an interesting year, some new experiences, and yeah, we look forward to next year."

Hatton's assessment came after Legion ended up fourth in the season finale. They were in the hunt entering the final round before losing captain Jon Rahm to illness.

Without the Spaniard's influence and star power, Legion combined for an underwhelming six under that left them trailing champions Ripper GC.

Speaking to Golfaq after their final round six-under effort fell short, Hatton said: "Yeah, it was always going to be hard with Jon not playing."

Rahm had led Legion to four team titles and claimed Individual Series champion just a week prior. But illness prevented the Spaniard playing alongside Hatton, Caleb Surratt and Kieran Vincent on Sunday.

"Especially when all four scores count. That being said, it's still disappointing to finish last out of the four today," lamented Hatton. "Yeah, it's just a frustrating way to finish."

The Englishman now sets his sights on earning DP World Tour starts via the upcoming Spanish and Scottish Opens. Hatton will play "home" events alongside Rahm as both fulfill commitments to retain European Tour cards and Ryder Cup eligibility.

While frustrated by the LIV conclusion, Hatton is focused on a strong stretch run and defending his points lead going into 2025 on Greg Norman's burgeoning breakaway circuit.
