Paris (France) - The second round of the men's golf competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics gets underway on Friday morning at Le Golf National. Defending gold medalist Xander Schauffele of the United States holds a share of the early lead after an impressive opening 65.

Defending Olympic champion Xander Schauffele found himself in the hunt for a second consecutive gold medal after shooting a blistering six-under 65 in the opening round of men's golf in Paris. The American star charged up the leaderboard to be just two shots off the early pace set by Japan's Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.

Coming into the event, Schauffele's recent major victories at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship cemented his status among the favorites. But it was his faultless ball-striking and impressive iron play on day one at Le Golf National that really announced his intentions.

His position at 6-under puts him in the perfect spot to launch a charge for gold on Friday when the second round gets underway from 3am ET. But he'll face stiff competition from Matsuyama, last man out in the morning wave, as the Japanese star carded an impressive 8-under 63 to claim the 18-hole lead.

The contenders go out again starting from 3am ET on Friday morning, with Golf Channel and Peacock televising the action live. Another fascinating day of tournament golf awaits from Paris. Here’s how to watch:
