Read more: 16 LIV Golf Players Qualify for 2024 British Open Field at Royal Troon
With just two weeks to go until the iconic Claret Jug is contested at Royal Troon golf club in Scotland, the field for the 2024 British Open is almost set.
According to the latest update from tournament organizers the R&A, 156 spots in the championship field have now been filled. As of July 7th, only 9 places remain up for grabs ahead of the first round starting on July 18th.
The final field contingent has been coming together over the past month via a number of qualifying competitions around the world. Earlier this week, 288 golfers took part in a 36-hole final qualifying stage played across four sites. The R&A reported that each site offered at least four qualifying spots.
In addition to the qualifying events, top player performances on the professional tours have also been determining acceptance into golf's original championship. Both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour upcoming events provide potential entry avenues.
The full list of 156 players who will travel to Royal Troon was published earlier today. Headlining the field are Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy alongside past champions like Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth.

Notable inclusions from qualifying are young talents Dominic Clemons, Gordon Sargent and Luis Masaveu. Local favorites like Robert MacIntyre and defending champ Ernie Els will look to carry Scottish and South African hopes respectively.
With 9 spots left to occupy before the historic event tees off, the scramble continues for players to punch their ticket to links golf's ultimate test. Golf fans around the world can now look forward to witnessing Royal Troon unveil its challenging layout to the game's best in just 14 days time.
The 152nd Open Championship is shaping up to be an unmissable concluding major of the 2024 season.
Who are the top contenders for the 2024 British Open
Scottie Scheffler (5-1 favorite, +450 via DraftKings)
As the world's #1 player, Scheffler comes in as the favorite and it's easy to see why based on his recent major championship form which includes a Green Jacket. However, the Open is his least experienced major and Royal Troon will be a tough test for just his 4th Open.
Rory McIlroy (8-1, +800 via bet365)
At 8-1, McIlroy looks like one of the best value bets given his pedigree in golf's oldest championship. He seems to raise his game in the Open and his complete game is well-suited for links golf. Motivated to add a 5th major title.
Xander Schauffele (10-1, 14-1)
Fantastic ball-striker who contended at St. Andrews last time out. Also has experience holding his own in tough conditions from international competitions. Could be primed for a first major win.
Bryson DeChambeau (11-1, 12-1)
Big-hitting style may not find as much of an advantage at Royal Troon but proven he can override course strategy with precision. Power off the tee still an edge if conditions firm up.
Ludvig Aberg (14-1, 16-1)
Intriguing choice as a rising star. But making major championship debuts is always a risk, even for talented youngsters. May need some experience before fully contending.
