Phil Mickelson Loses Bet to YouTube Golfer and Rocks Joggers at The Open

You may have done a double take when you saw photos of Phil Mickelson strutting his stuff at The Open practice rounds earlier this week - because the man was straight-up wearing joggers!

Horvat, a popular YouTuber known for facing off against pro golfers, had posted a video showing a match between himself and Mickelson played at a course in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Horvat challenged Mickelson to a casual round, giving himself a five-shot head start.

Now, we all know Phil doesn't lose easily on the links. But even he couldn't overcome that kind of handicap against the always-hustling Horvat. The terms? If Postman won, Mickelson would have to trade in his usual preppy gear for a pair of everyone's favorite dad joggers during practice at Royal Troon.

Despite the sizable handicap, Mickelson was unable to overcome Horvat's lead. True to his word, the six-time major champion showed up to practice at Royal Troon clad in jogging pants.

Mickelson seemed fully committed to the bit too, even cracking jokes on social media about how he's definitely too old to pull off the look but is giving it his best shot anyway. "As an unfashionable 54 year old, I never thought I could pull off wearing joggers. Guess I was wrong," he tweeted. Clearly he was wrong though, because our spies at Royal Troon said the joggers were looking fresh.

This year's bet with Horvat resulted in an unexpected fashion choice, but Mickelson still aims to contend for golf's oldest championship.

Hopefully those joggers give him some extra mobility and bounce in his step out there this week. Either way, it's just another reminder of why we love this guy. Even at 54, Mickelson keeps things interesting - both on and off the course. You can catch him teeing off on Day 1 this Thursday, joggers TBD.
