Chartiers-Houston freshman JoJo Jaskulski is bursting onto the WPIAL's golf scene

The Pittsburgh golfing community has been turned on its head by the recent emergence of a tremendously talented young player. 14-year-old JoJo Jaskulski, a freshman at Chartiers-Houston High School, has stormed onto the scene with a simply sublime round of golf that showcased her immense potential.

In a match against Fort Cherry earlier this fall at the hallowed Washington Country Club, Jaskulski set a new course record with a scorching 9-hole score of 29 strokes. Not content to merely win the match, the prodigious youngster demolished the previous mark in stunning fashion. “It was an unbelievable day,” she said afterward, still in disbelief over her masterful performance that included five birdies and an eagle without a single bogey.

During a recent round with KDKA's Rich Walsh, young standout JoJo Jaskulski opened up about the details of her tour de force record-setting performance at Washington Country Club. "My putting was unbelievable that day," she recalled. "I was making a lot of putts. It was just so surreal. On the first hole, I started out with a birdie and I'm like 'Oh boy.'"

After nailing a birdie bomb on the opening hole, Jaskulski admitted she was in a state of pleasant shock. "I just thought to myself, par the next hole. Then I made a really good par putt on that hole," she said. But an exceptional save on that hole set the stage for magic. "I knew it was gonna be pretty good, but I didn't think it would be that good," she modestly reflected on her lights-out round of five birdies and an eagle without a single blemish.

Jaskulski's star turn is all the more astonishing given she's played the game competitively for just over two years. She credits her introduction through her supportive father, an avid player himself. She says her dad fitted for a new driver and brought her some balls. "Right away, he got me lessons and I got into it from that, too," JoJo said.

While her record-shattering round took the area by storm, freshman sensation JoJo Jaskulski doesn't view herself as destined for stardom. "I never thought I'd be this good starting out," she says modestly. Her dad's sage advice of focusing on scoring with the flat stick rather than flashy drives has steadied her on tricky greens.

It's served her well in her breakthrough WPIAL Individual Championship debut. Emerging from the first qualifying round at Willowbrook CC in third place, Jaskulski is peaking at the right time. "LPGA would be a dream," says the unassuming talent. Her goals are loftier too - a future on the LPGA or playing collegiately. "I really want to play golf in college."

With her unrelenting work ethic and calm demeanor, there's no reason to doubt Jaskulski can make her dreams reality. This week she'll battle at Butler CC for a WPIAL gold medal and state berth that could rocket her star to even brighter heights. One thing is clear - this freshman phenom is just getting started.
